Back in '94 I owned a pretty good analog 8 track studio. I left the industry for a while and am now going to be building a new studio that I want to be as professional as possible, something to really build upon. By September, I will have about $10,000 to work with.

Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you have Avalon at around 3K and some others in that price range. Is that about the bottom line for a truely good eq that can be used for mastering. NO Digital please.

Okay, I need other people's opinions on this...Does anyone else here own an AKG 414C BULS and think the sound from it is either harsh or too brittle in the upper registers of the frequency spectrum? I've heard from about four people that it's hard on the ears.

I would love some suggestions on a very good analog 24 channel recording mixer.

My goel is to surpass Mackie's imperfections, like bad incerts, pres, EQ, alomost everything about this board I had to bypass.

I need opinions on the best 2-bus comp. The Manley seems to have a good rep but I'm concerned with the tube issue and the questions of low end mud. The Crane Song seems to be where I'm leaning. I do mostly Alt rock. Just got off the phone with the Smart distributor.

Need a little direction---Looking for a analog "mix-down" board----24 to 32 channel, 8 sends per, a quality 4 band eq with sweeps,,mic preamps do not matter--would like 90% of I/O on top of board--and would like under 3 feet wide>>>>>>so impossible? Not Mackie nor Behringer-(although the MX 3282 has the exact features--but looking for the next sonic quality up) Any hints?

I have narrowed my choice in a mixer that will be used mostly for recording and mixing drums. I am interested in the Mackie 1604 ProVlz and the Allen and Heath Mixwizard, model WZ16:2DX. I do not care too much about features, just quality. Does the Mixwizard have better preamps and EQ than the Mackie? I'm concerned about headroom, being that I will be using this for drums.

Anyone know what the differences are in the 65, 70, and 80 series tridents? How would you classify their sound? I know how neves and api's sound, is it close to either of them? Also how are the eq's? Anyone think there might be something to gain by mixing thru one with good converters rather than mixdown in a daw?

Hey, I thought I'd bug you guys with my usual sillyness since this forum is open to anybody.
So, here we go:
Why is tube gear(the real thing, not the hybrid crap) so expensive? Building a tube comp costs as much as a FET or VCA comp.
Time invested in research and developpement?
