I have now repaired and Modded 4 LA4's for the same customer. VU repairs, matching the LDR's for stereo pairs, new opamps, recapping and general clean and lubing of the pots.

Noobie here. yes, you have endured one novice question before and I ask for your patience again. . Have any of you ever used the gain in a vintage compressor like the LA4 to preamp a mic signal? I did this the other night as my Ward Beck's aren't powered yet and I had to test a new reverb so I ran my tube mic into the Urei and then to the reverb then to an XLR into Pro Tools.

Has anybody heard the Alactronics mod for the LA4?What is it all about?

I've got a pair of LA4s which I'm looking to get rebuilt. I've been in contact with Alcatronics, but was wondering whether there are other shops I should be checking.
