Panning & Levels?
I have a level issue...I'm monitoring through a Mackie 1604 --2 channel stereo panned hard right n left. I seem to be getting more level out of the left side due 2 the meter running hotter...I've check all gain structure from my Mac running DP to my individual trim on the MAckie & master faders...all equal. If I even out the panning to straight up, all levels are even?

Input/Output levels for preamps
Excuse my ignorance, but I own 2 mic preamp-amps, an ART Tube MP and a Studio Projects VTB-1 and on both units there are levels for input and output.
usually when recording I set both input and output
at 12:00 o'clock. Is this a good idea, or are there some hard, fast rules for these settings?
Thanks for any and all input,
GC

Bass Levels for Dance Music?
Hey,
Is there any kind of guideline for how much bass there should be in a bass-heavy dance record these days? I'm thinking vinyl for DJ use -- ranging from underground house to euro-dance type stuff.

Normal recording levels: PreSonus MP20, AT4050, the spok
This is my first venture into recording. It is for fun, not profit. I did not want to buy specialized equipment like shot gun mics for people talking and then condenser mics for people singing.

Sound Levels
I was listening to some of my tracks with my home stereo. I noticed when I turned up the volume with my favorite tunes the sound increased slightly. When I turn up the sound with mine it gets louder much faster. Is that have something to do with being professionaly mastered or is that a problem with my own sound levels or compressing?

Setting bass freqs. levels using near field monitors
OK, I have near field monitors and head phones as my tools for mixing. For the most part I can get everything to sit well in the mix until I cut to CD and play my work on other systems.
The problems is I do not know how the bass levels will turn up on other systems. Is there a rule of thumb that might help at setting bass levels using near field monitors.
digital recording levels
In more than one post Bill Roberts has stated that a mix should go to the mastering engineer at -6 db. Does that mean that I should record each track at -6 db also? Or should I try to get the maximum signal I can on each track and then mix to -6 db?
