My band is finding it VERY hard to find a distortion that we are all happy with using the POD XT.. the distortion sounds we use sound very synthetic no matter what we do, (the clean sounds arnt to bad though)... Ive downloaded about 200 heavy metal presets from the line 6 tone transfer site... and to add to that we have even tried creating our own presets...

What are some good techniques to use when recording heavy metal music? How do you mic the drums to get that punchy new wave of heavy metal sound? How could i get more warmth to my recordings? Im only looking for suggestions. Thanks.

Does anyone any EQ settings to fatten up a metal guitar sound? I'm looking for that really meaty palm-muted Messugah style sound. I realise that its mostly down to the guitar and amp.

I'm using the simulanalog guitar plugins and to me they sound pretty good. I use the Tube Screamer in front of JCM900. I turn the mids up and not scoop them and it's quite a decent fat tone.

Does anyone have any ideas or methods regarding death metal vocals? I'm talking about the guttural growling and screaming that bands like Cannibal Corpse have. Any effects that are commonly used? Or mic choices and EQing suggestions?

I started my recording life as an assistant in a jazz/classical studio, then left and did a punk album for my friends back home. Now their band is heavy metal. I can get the EXACT sounds I want for punk drums, but Metal sounds so different.

hello, I'm a 15 yearold boy that has been recoring for 4 years now. I think this recording may be my best work. But i would like some of you pros to take a listen. It's MM tune from Anti-christ super star. I played all the instruments and i record all of this in a room that had NO treatment what so ever. The only thing is the vocals. i think the main one sucks.
