I thought I'd start a new thread, discussing songs we like and dissecting the recording and mixing methods used that lent heavily to the ultimate sound of the song.

Chris's thread on Mojave mics - and especially his link to a youtube video of a jazz trio recording with these mics - sparked an idea in me, and that was to research the classic recorded jazz era - from around 1956 - 1965.

Popular jazz artists during this era were people like Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, etc.

hey all. there's a good possibility the studio i work at is going to be getting an ssl e-series, a 2" tape machine, and a 1/4" mastering deck. I've been mulling over some different ways of incorporating these into our daw system (digital performer/apogee/motu).

Can I produce accurate condensor mic/preamp comparisons splitting one mic into different preamps? Whats the best ways to do this?

I appreciate all of the comments and advice in my several parallel mic threads. Basically, I am having difficulty getting good acoustic sound out of a hodgepdge of mics that are apparently not suited to acoustic guitar.
