Is my SM7b defective?
Hello!
I recently got a Shure SM7b but I suspect it's defective. I've only recorded vocals for one song with it but felt there was something off with the sibilance so I analyzed it with Voxengo Span and noticed that there is a weird dip at 6500 Hz. It looks exactly like if there was an EQ with a very narrow bell with a pretty large decrease in dB at 6500 Hz.
This is an average measurement using Voxengo Span. The audio is completely dry, the SM7b set to flat (i.e. no bass roll off or presence boost).

Microphone repairs
I have a Groove tubes model 6tm. It has a chinese K67 capsule and a cinamag transformer, I replaced the tube on this mic with a 5840 / 6225, Pentode, Sharp Cut-Off from antique supply and it sounds okay to me. I really took my time and labeled everything, but it is noisy.

Dismantling a U87
Hi everyone
Is it difficult/risky to dismantle a U87? I don't want to do any damage, but I need to take a look at the innards. The outside is fairly bashed up, so I want to take a quick look to see what condition the insides are in.
Thanks
John Stafford

Shure 16A Condenser Mic
Hi all,
I have a broken Shure 16A condenser mic. Not one of the more common Shures. They only produced it from 1999 to 2002.
It's an okay mic...I think I paid $120 new for it. Shure charges a flat fee of $85 to fix recording mics.
My Question: For this mic, is it worth it? Or should I give it away and use the $85 to buy a new mic?

mic repairs?
I have an oktava mk-012 and its got a lot of buzzing and noise when I hook it up with the phantom power. I switched the capsul with one that I know works correctly and still get the same problems which tells me the diaphram is fine. I know these mics are pretty cheap, but would getting it repaired be cheaper than getting a new one? Where can I go for mic repairs? I'm in the chicago area.
