Micing & recording grand piano
I have to run sound for a quintet. Violin, DoubleBass, Elec GTR, Acordeon(Bandoneon) and Acoustic Grand Piano.
We will be on tour in many locations around Europe and China, but first we must make some gigs at my country, Argentina.
The range of Pianos we use goes from Ronish 1/4 to Steinway 1/2.

Vocal mic playing piano
Price is not an object! I sing my songs and record a steinway grand piano all the time. I feel that it is time for a magor upgrade in quality. I know preamps are just as important but I think I have that covered or at least enough to experiment with a nice microphone. Any suggestions.

Controlling Pedal Thump on Piano Recording?
Anybody got any magic formula for this? I had a pianist come in and record some stuff, and while the piano itself sounds great, the player really thumped the pedal, which is kind of distracting. I found the frequencies it occupies, and I can take it out, but it also makes a big hole in the piano sound.
Anything that will fix this, short of better player technique?

Piano mic placement
i've looked all over the site, but i couldn't find any threads that focused specifically on mic placement. I have a 5' grand piano that i need recorded. i will soon have 2 AKG c1000 s and i already have a few dynamic mics.
i know mic placement should be wherever i think sounds better, but i just need somewhere to start.
thanks
matt

Micing a grand piano
Can anyone give me some hints on the best Micing techniques for a grand piano? I have two SM57s and two SM58s at my disposal for this purpose. The show in question is in a 365 seat auditorium and will feature a vocalist with piano accompaniment. Thanks!
