Vintage KM84 mics
Forums
I've been (unsuccessfully) looking for a matched pair of vintage KM84 mics, which no one seems to have.
Considering how many of these have been sold I wouldn't think it difficult at all to find a pair somewhere, but so far - nothing! I see loads of U87's, 67's etc - all the large diaphragm stuff, but no 84's.

Beyer M160 guitar mics
Forums
These mics have been recommended to me by a few people that I trust, but I've been too lazy to find one to get my ears on. Does anyone have an impression of this mic that they'd like to share? :)

Dual vs Single Diaphram mics
Forums
Hey David,
There are dual diaphrammed, and single
diaphrammed cardiod condensor mics. What are the advantages of two?
I've seen Schoeps single diaphram mics that have mechanically variable patterns, so I know pattern selection isn't the only one.

Overhead Mics Ideas please?
Forums
I have been using a matched pair of AKG 451's with cardoid capsules for a number of years now. A few days ago one of them was damaged beyond repair. I am just about to replace them and would very much welcome your imput on what you think makes great overheads and why.
Thanks
Simon

mics on a budget

What you guys think about this setup:
2 Marshall MXL 603 (overheads)
1 Oktawa MK 012 (bottom snare)
1 RE 20 (kick)
1 SM57 (top snare)
3 Sennheiser 604 (toms)
1 Marshall MXL 2001 (vox)
With this setup I should spend around... 1200 and I still have a spare MXL 2001... comments? Ideas?

Marshal Mics
Forums
Does anyone know how the marshal 2001 and 2003 compare to the RODE NT1? the frequency response looks flatter on the marshals (I can't afford to many mics, so somthing w/ and uncolored sound is preferable) but the RODE is a classic, and I havn't heard much about the marshals.

Small condenser mics on snare?
Forums
I was thinking of trying my overhead Oktava MC012 on my snare (since it sounds great as an overhead). I see on their web site that it's SPL @ 1 Khz is >140dB. If I close-mike it, that level limitation should be fine, right?
Thanks!

Info on mics for a home studio on budget
Forums
I'm a drummer and I'm also planning to build my home studio. So, what you guys think about this set?
2 Marshall MXL 2001 (overheads, vocals...)
2 Marshall MXL 603S (hi-hats and snare)
and two opptions:
a CAD KitTrick with 4 mics (one for the bass drum)
or a Sennheiser E604 3 Pack and a AKG D112 or a Shure SM something-I-forgot :)?
