Hi there new to the forum and was hoping to find a little help,

I'm looking at buying a used Groove Tubes sm5 off a buddy of mine. He let me borrow it first to check it out and it's got a noise problem. The mike sounds fine but has a pretty low frequency noise pop type of thing that comes in every few seconds.

I am trying to narrow down the problem...

I have tried switching power jacks and turning off my monitor (which helped reduced guitar noise) but it didn't reduce this background line in noise.

Is it simply because my sound card is weak? I have a built in sound max ac97' standard sound card.

I've been doing home recording for a bit but my knowledge level is low. One recurring problem I have is that whenever I record using a mic (a Shure SM58) I get a lot of background hiss. I'm running the mic into an M-
Audio Fast Track Pro and then into my Dell using an older Cool Edit Pro program. In fact, I seem to get some hiss even when plugging in instruments.

I had this problem before, and thought it was because I was using unbalanced cable. But now I've gone and bought a TRS 1/4" to XLR cable and the noise problem remains.

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a PreSonus Firebox. I have the main outs of the box plugged into a Mackie mixer hooked up to a QSC amp powering my studio monitors. Has anyone with a Firebox seemed to notice that the PreSonus Firebox is kind of noisy. I use to have a M-Audio 2496 PCI card and it was dead silent.
