Well, I have some money (about 1k) not much, but enough to buy some upgrades. Here is my current setup, let me know what you guys think the weak links are, and hopefully some suggestions for replacement.

Computer: MacBook Pro, 4GB RAM, Solid state hard drive, etc.

Interface: PreSonus FirePod

Preamp: Aphex 107 with the tube upgrade

Hey geniuses. I'm in a high school sophomore in a band (bass, drums, guitar/vocals) and we are planning to start recording soon. We play pop punk and modern rock mostly i would say. We don't have enough money for studio time yet, but we want to make a quality demo making due with our own equipment. I would be using garageband or Cubase to record us using the Lexicon Lambda interface.

My MOTU 8pre died after a couple of years, with absolutely no help from MOTU. The customer support is non-existent. Months of trying to call, email, technical support online, etc. I'm done with them.

I'm looking at the RME Fireface 400. Opinions on this one?

Other suggestions?

I use it for my keyboards, guitars, and vocals with Cubase SX3.

I have recorded a couple of CDs for fun at my house and am serious enough about it that I recently upgraded my pre to a UA LA610 because I got a really good deal on it used. I recorded this last CD on a PreSonus Firebox and it worked fine except that tracks were often interrupted because of hiccups while recording.
