Guitar pickup noise/interference, how to eliminate?

Getting that noise from the guitar where when you touch the strings it stops, but also discovered that it only does it when the guitarist is holding the guitar in the playing position, i.e. the pickup is facing out away from the guitarist. Noticed that when we turn the guitar around so that the back is facing out, the noise stops. We're in a residential finished basement.

Neck pickup is quiet and sounds phasey

I am not new to pickup wiring, nor am I new to modding, which is why I am puzzled by this. I've had some Seymour Duncan pickups laying unused in the bottom of my drawer for the last year or so and tonight I put them into my guitar once again. The bridge pickup sounds bangin, but the neck pickup sounds quiet and a tad phasey.

Wiring a three pickup strat with 5 position switch

I'm doing a setup on a friend's guitar and two of his three pickups don't have any sound, the bridge is the only one that works. I opened it up and the inside looks like somebody tampered with it. They don't even look soldered. I can solder but is there a schematic that I can follow?

Jazz Bass pickup hum

My recording engineer wants me to up-grade my single coil pickups on my Fender Jazz Bass to eliminate the hum.
In reserching the problem, I've found that these two stock single coil pickups should cancel the hum themselves by design.
How do I check the polarity of these pickups to see if they are installed correctly?
Are there any other tips for eliminating the hum?
