I have used portable recorders starting in the 80s (WM-D3) and continued in the 90s (TCD-D8), mostly for recording piano recitals. My microphones of choice were and are the OKM-2 binaural mics by the Berlin 'Soundman' company and they served me really well.

I am very fond of my humble Zoom H1 recorder but I'm still wondering about PDR's from other companies.

What PDR's do you use and why? How does the sound quality hit you? Was it worth the price? Or not?

I'm considering purchasing a portable recorder (digital stereo) and wondering if anyone has used one of the following two, what you think of it, and where I might find the best deal:
*Zoom H2 (or H4) (advertised $ H2 > $200.00)
*OLYMPUS WS-331M (advertised $ > $180.00)

i have a 24 channel soundcraft,a fair amount of outboard gear,and a few mics,and a pc. would it smarter for me to grab a 24track digital recorder or the interface and pro tools. I'm not even sure which version of that i need.

I can't seem to go wrong when I post at Recording.org for advice on new gear purchases. So here we go again!

I'm wondering if anyone who has used the new Sound Devices recorders could comment on the preamps... are they comparable to well liked transparent pre-amps such as Millennia, Grace, DAV etc.

What’s the best standalone digital recorder - soundwise i mean .
Thinking about purchasing between Alesis ADAT HD24, Tascam MX2424, Mackie or even Otari II to use with my Mackie 1604 VLZ-Pro?
Or get a Roland VS xx, Yamaha or even Korg ?
And which one will let me bring the soundfiles the easiest way into PT/tdm 24 Core ?
