Hi Everybody. I know that this topic has been discussed on lots of threads, but i need your advice on which pre is better for my case.
From what i read the conclusion is that for that money all the preamps I could buy are more or less the same, but as there is a lot of preamps for that money, i can't decide...

Im putting together a project / budget studio and I'm trying to get the best sound I can.
Unsure of a few things though.

First off the main thing to be recorded will be Rap and R & B.

2nd,i guess i've decided to run pro tools and I'm going to run with either the digi 001 or the mbox.probally the 001 because of the amounts of outs and in's.

I'm looking for a nice 8 mic preamp unit with ADAT out for recording live gigs. I have some nice mic preamps at home (Avalon/Grace) and I don't intend these pres to be as good as those. I know my live recordings will not be as good as my other recordings because of the varrious rooms and track bleed. I will be feeding the ADAT into my MOTU 828mkII.

I'm trying to start a project/club at the high school where I work and am looking for your advice on an all in one solution for our recording and mastering needs. Basically a stereo (bypassable) mic preamp and compressor/limiter for under $2000. My students are mostly into hip hop and rnb.

using tritons etc, should i go through 2 mic preamp or direct box's, What is more common?

for more of a linkin park vocal sound, which mic preamp should i get?

I currently use a MOTU 896 with Digital Performer 4 and I am less than happy with the preamps on the 896. I am looking at getting two channels of better quality preamps for recording rock music- guitar, vocals, drums. for less than $500. The PreSonus MP-20 caught my eye. Opinions on this preamp versus getting a DMP-3 or a couple VTB-1's. ?

I've seen a few kits on the net that you can get for around a thousand dollars that are supposed to be API and Millennia copies. The circuit design looks very simple especially on the MM-990. its an epoxy molded gain circuit that needs a power supply and phantom power + a rack box.
