But my question is subtly different..
I have a Focusrite platinum voicemaster right now, i use the eq normally, then run through a urei1178 ..With a condenser I'm getting pretty nice vocal sounds, and my dynamic guitar sound is fairly o.k.
BUT. .I have just bought a Shure SM7B dynamic mic, for rock vocals

Hi everyone, just got an account here because this site seems to have great users that are very knowledgeable with lots of gear. I hope some of the user's can hep me here. I'm currently selling a lot of my gear and have around $2000 to $3000 to spend on a quality mic preamp or some type of DI to get me the sound I need.

You know...for a while...I've been asking for (& receiving) help on questions related to: well...basically, trying to achieve a pro sound on a (my) project studio budget.

I've got the ear;

So why shouldn't I begin to move up; & start to acquire some quality gear?

How does this sound for a start?

Simply looking for a clean, transparent mic preamp that is versatile. Colored mic preamps are nice but for my applications I really just need a good transparent one that has versatility. I mostly record hard rock clients and the such and would all of you guys' opinions on some good color-less preamps. Please reply with preamp models, costs, and their strengths.

Wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to test the True Precision 8 Preamp. I have heard good things about them. Kurt do you have any knowledge of them?

I am currently using a PreSonus Tube Pre as well as Mackie and Behringer board preamps with a CAD GXL 2200 and am not unhappy with sound. The GXL 2200 is very clean if a little on the bright side, and the PreSonus has tons of gain. I am looking to add another vocal mic or 2 and a quality preamp. I am considering the Safesound P1 and the Speck Model 5.

I hate to beat a dead horse because I've read almost every post tackling this subject, but I need some personalized help.

I'm using a Tascam FW1884 and tracking to hard drive using Cubase SX 2.0. I'm using the on board pre's and here is my mic list:
