Recording Upright Bass
Forums
After 35 years playing electric bass I got my first (lefty) upright bass a year ago. Still a long way from mastering the beast, but I've done a few recordings recently. Playing jazz and folk. All piz. (I worked on arco for a few months, started receiving death threats from the family.) Anyway, I'd appreciate any recording tips.

Recording Bass
Forums
I find that my recorded bass parts end up needing extensive EQ to just sound "OK". The issue is always boomy bass / mud combined with a lack of clarity. The instrument is a Carvin LB76 six string bass with essentially a Jazz bass pickup arrangement. It has an active preamp/EQ but I generally bypass it because its a little noisy. I am recording direct using a Brick for a DI.

recording / gigging with acoustic electric bass
Forums
hi all
what is the best way to record an acoustic electric bass (by that i don't mean a standup bass, i mean one of those aria acoustic basses that looks like a big electric guitar, but with a pickup inside somewhere) -- go directly in to the mixer from the pickup, or do you need to DI first? or is it still best to plug it into an amp and mic the amp?

Alright, now for my next pathetic newbie question.
I would like to put bass down on a project i'm doing, but i don't have a bass
amp. Just a bass guitar i borrowed from my cousin. I'm using the e-mu
1820m and Cubase to record.

Hi. I own a small studio at home, base on a PC system and 2 Echo audio drivers (Layla+Gina). I also use a MAckie 32.8.2 mixer to manage instruments inputs, tracks outputs and outboards.

Recording a Cheap Bass
Forums
I have a young Rock Band in the studio recording a four song demo.
The bass player is using a cheap $300.00 IBanez Bass.
The big problem is, every string on this thing rattles against the frets causing unpleasant fret buzz. The bass just sounds horrible. I don't even think a set-up on this would help.
