Recording in stereo - Real Acoustic Performances

Forums

It seemed sensible, before starting to do the video on recording choirs, to explain a little about the differing techniques you can use to record 'real' stereo - as in recording the placement of individual sound sources within a stereo soundfield. Quite different from our usual multitrack method of panning the various tracks to their proper location.

Problems recording in Stereo with new Microphone

Forums

Hello everbody. I'll start by saying that it is amazingly difficult to find any help on how to setup and record with a Stereo Microphone. I guess because most people just use regular mics or Stereo Mics are still fairly new. Even specific google searches and popular audio forums seem to have never really had the issue I currently have.

Explanation of recording in stereo channels vs mono?

Hi,
Can someone explain exactly what happens if recording two mics as "Stereo" on the mixer, compared to two mics defined as mono, using the pan function etc.? In other words, when people describe XY, etc., I assume they are saying to define both mics as mono right? What does the mixer add then when defining as stereo, in same XY?

I want good vocal recordings.
