Compressors without threshold knobs. Love em'? Hate em'?
Compressors without threshold knobs ("fixed threshold").
Discuss.
Personally, they piss me off. I don't "get it". First, why would any manufacturer be so lazy as to omit one knob; whats their motivation? Secondly, why would any consumer of said gear want to use it this way on purpose?
What, if any, is the advantage of this design?
need help with path that i run my board/pres/compressors
i run my snake into a Mackie 24/4 vlz pro mixer and use the insert TRS to send out into my preamp and then to compressor and then out to my multitrack interface (MOTU 24i). on the first two channels i run board/preamp/compressor. on the others i run board/compressors with no external pre. am i running everything in the correct order?
Layering compressors through the mix: Attacks & releases
One of the big questions I always find myself stuck on is how to set attack/release so the layers of compressors in my mixes/masters work best.
Eg. DRUMS:
1) Compression at track level (bass drum, snare, etc.)
2) Compression at drum bus level
3) Compression at master level

Compressors! To compress or not to compress...
I am going to be looking into adding a compressor to my home recording rig upon advice recieved from this forum and other reading.
Remembering I am on a budjet and a newbie, so be gentle;
1. What features should I be looking for?
2. suggested brands/models?
Guzzy :-?

Which of the following 2-channel compressors to buy?
Hi all,
I think I am quite sure to buy the Gefell M930 microphone and the Great River MP-2NV Pre 2 channel. Last remaining choice will be the condensor.
Bear in mind when responding that I will have 2 vocal mics (the Gefell above and the NT2000) and the pre and separate compressor will be used dually for vocals and guitar/bass (thanks to the hi-Z on the pre).
Compressors
Hi there,
I'm thinking about getting an outboard compressor (cheap - of course) for my setup to do some half-mastering! :) anyone got any suggestions - ive been told that the Joemeek stuff is good, but the TL Audio stuff doesn't live up to its price tag.

dbx Compressors
Would a dbx 166 or a pair of stereo linked 160a's be a good choice to put between my Groove Tube pre's and the inputs of my RME card? I want something to tame anything particularly hot and be transparent of course.
If not, what would you recommend?
