Best snare drum for this session?
I am looking in the Interstate Music catalogue for a good mid-priced snare to get for my studio. Also, a set of congas?
I want it for sessions that require subtle snare accompanyment. Brush work and quiet rI'm shot stuff.

One or Two mics on snare?
I started this as a separate topic from SM-57 on snare because I have a different experience. Drummers ALWAYS loved my snare sound and I never used two mics. I "could" have used a bottom mic to add the snare sound, but every time I tried it I dumped it because I didn't need it. I can't think of one session where a drummer asked me "where is the snare sound?"

Identify Slingerland Snare Anyone?
Hi Folks,
Just picked up a older Slingerland Snare and I wanted to find out when it was made.
It is a 5 1/2 x 14, 6 lug the finish is Dark Blue Sparkle.
Drum has a serial six digit serial number on it and it is in realy nice shape.
Does anyone know where I can find out how to date this snare?
Thanks
Mike

What's better than sm57 on snare?
I'm getting less than optimal results with my sm57... I know everybody loves them but what's better? I've been using a condenser on the snare because the sm57 lacks enough clarity and crack to cut through the mix(yeah, yeah, I know change it at the source.. 3 snares later i change the mic!) But now I need something with more body too. any suggestions? anybody use the Audix D1?

Snare reverb mixing question
How many of you send the snare track to a stereo reverb, send the reverb to a different bus and mix it in with the dry snare track and how many of you send a reverb to a mono aux and just add as much (or as little) reverb directly the dry snare itself? What seems to work better? Or is it, like most things, a case by case deal? Just curious...Thanks.

Overhead and snare placement question
Hello there I'm new to this forum but am really liking it...
I have had a enough work in studios to know how to work them but really do not like my engineering skills ( the sound and tones of everything i record )
I am doing a recording of a Hardcore band ( for those who dont know hardcore is a cross of punk and metal ) in a couple of weeks.

Audix D1 vs. . Beyer M201TG for Snare
After getting screwed by an eBay scam artist and losing my Audix D1 purchase, I have to start over again.
Does anybody have any first-hand experience specifically comparing the D1 with the M201TG for close-miced snare?

KISS and their snare rolls
Ok, so I am listening to KISS recently, and I notice somthing about their snare rolls. They seem to have a faint flanging quality to them. Anyone else noticed that, or heard a similar effect on any other album?
my little brother just gave me their greatest hits, I think I may have to start picking up a few of their albums, great stuff.
Eric
