Playing Soft Synths in Sonar?

I have taken a copy of Sonar 5 from a friend of mine ( a producer ). And I have just installed it. And the only thing I checked out was the synths as you can think. But the synths just won't sound :( I've been trying to play Roland Groove but as I said it won't sound when play with my MIDI keyboard or the keyboard of the laptop itself. I've checked the manual but I couldn't figure it out.

Soft synth vs Hardware

This may be a jaded topic, but here I go anyway.
I'm thinking of buying the new Virus TI Polar, it costs big bucks.
I'm interested to hear if people think its worth spending so much on a hardware unit ( that will be obsolete sooner than you would like) or can the same sound s be achieved thru soft synths ( which are usually upgradeable).

Atmosphere Soft Synth/Samples

Hi,

I am working on a project with some folks where we're using midi horns and strings along with live bass, drums, keys and three vocalists.

I have recorded my live drums along with the midi tracks and the more I listen to it, the more "cheezy" the horn and string parts sound.
I'm using SONAR XL and a Korg X5RD module.

Soft Synth Latency

I'm in an area that I don't know too much about. Integrating a soft synth into ACID 4.0. I think I've got everything installed just fine. The problem is serious latency. I'd read about this, but figured it might not be too bad... wrong. The setup is...

PIII 733 Mhz
Windows 98me
AudiomediaIII card
Acid 4.0
Sampletank

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
