I have a mac mini. I want to record Sitar, and down the track I will want to use the setup to record stuff like acoustic guitar and possible vocals (but I want to put my money towards something that will make sitar and guitar sound good). The problem with the Mac Mini is that the sound card does not have a line in or PCI. So, I'll probably need a new external USB sound card.

I have had a small studio set up for editing purposes only (no recording), using PT8 LE/Mbox 2. I've since upgraded to PT9, since I need to work on higher resolution session files (96Khz+) that I record in the studio. The Mbox2 allows only up to 48Khz files, so I need to find another option to connect my monitors.

Is there some way that i can route audio from my DAW (thats using ASIO driver) to another kind of application that uses audio input/output? Example: I have found out a way to create a certain vocoder patch in Reason, and i want to be able to virtually connect the output from Reason to the input for Skype so i can use that as a mic in calls.

I'm looking for a sound card that needs to meet a few requirements. In order of importance: 1) Having 2 analog audio devices show up in Windows sound devices. Control Panel > Sound > Audio > Default playback (This drop down). I know I can get 2 separate physical cards that will do this, but I want it on only ONE card. 2) PCI 3) Low-profile 4) Low price

Hi everyone i m writing after a long time again. i have simple home recording setup i.e sm58, konnekt 8 and a windows based pc.
my question is if i want to by pass the preamps of konnekt 8 and buy a better microphone preamp like a blue robbie preamp. how can i get it done ? is it possible with this setup or do i have to get something else.

I'd like to upgrade my usb soundcard from a M-Audio Audiophile USB to something that allows me record more tracks at once.

I like that my audiophile doesn't have built-in preamps as I use external preamps, but I can't see anything out there without preamps.

i just purchased a saffire pro 40 firewire interface. i am running it to an hp tx2500z tablet laptop. using the express card slot for firewire port. the sound card is integrated, and i fear it is not powerful enough to run this. does anyone have any insight into this?

At what level of audio production is a soundcard needed anymore?

Modern motherboards have onboard audio and there are even some with SoundBlaster onboard and SPDIF. CPU and bus speeds are incredibly fast such that dedicated processors on a sound card aren't perhaps as necessary as they used to be. Audio devices can be connected via USB or Firewire directly to the motherboard.
