SPDIF Recording Level
I've been trying to go through and record all my vinyl to wave files. I have a Technics 1200 M3D running into a Tascam X-9 DJ mixer. I recently purchased the Tascam because I have decided to switch from DJing vinyl to CDs and it has two SPDIF inputs and one SPDIF Output.

spdif-ficulty?
in a thread on another bbs i made a comment after another said something about harmonics in a S/PDIF stream... i was of the understanding that S/PDIF was an asynchronous serial protocol... not a modulated clock... anybody clear this up for me?

SPDIF Switchbox
I DJ and have recently moved from vinyl to CDJs, and have been trying to switch over to all digital as well. My CDJs have a SPDIF (Coax) out and I've ordered a new mixer with a SPDIF (Coax) ins and out. This is setup in my apartment so I also have a DVD player and TV with SPDIF out. The TV is TOSLINK, but converters are pretty cheap.

Recording Via Macbook Pro's Optical SPDIF
Is anybody out there recording straight into their Macbook Pro's optical SPDIF?
Is it possible to hook up a system that goes: preamp ---> A/D/A ---> Macbook Pro optical SPDIF?
If so, what are the drawbacks to this? Are there any quality issues? Would I be better off with a two-channel firewire system?

Using external converters w/S/PDIF or aes/ebu to soundcard
Hi all!
I'm sorta a noobie to digital recording, and I need some advice on some new equipment. I'm going to expand my analog studio to digital. Now I'm wondering what I need to look for when purchasing some sort of soundcard. I'd like to use Pro Tools (does it matter if it's LE or M-powered?), but I have Logic Pro for now.
SPDIF vs. . AES/EBU vs. . ADAT Lightpipe
Which do you prefer for your connections?
Because of the Nyquist Theory and Lightpipe's restriction to 48khz (which really is not a restriction at all), I would think Lightpipe would be the best connection.
Does anyone have definitive information on this?

Signal passthrough SPDIF
With Firewire 410, does the SPDIF limit the signal being passed through?
For example, can I send and recieve 192khz at 24bit signal through Firewire 410 as a passthrough from a source to my pc, without Firewire not touching it?
I was thinking of a solution like Rosetta 200, and maybe with it, I can just go through the Firewire 410 without it doing anything ot the signal.
