I just watched Metallica at the Live Earth show, and when a shot of Lars' kit was shown, I noticed two mics on the snare. One was at about 12 o'clock and the other at about 10 o'clock. I can't quite make out which microphones they are, but they might be Audix ... anyone?

how can i record stereo and mono guitars or vocals in Sonar.

Hey, I have been mixing for over a year and I have run into not so much a problem but an annoyance. I mostly mix hip hop but this could apply to any genre. When I am mixing in background dubs for emphasis on key rhymes or punch lines I like to put a stereo delay on it. It gives the key lines a thick and wide feel.

I just got offered a good deal on a Sony ECM-999, (MS mic) and was wondering what, if any, opinions are out there on this mic.

Always on the lookout for a good stereo mic system, I like to keep my eyes open for deals, new products, etc. ... (Someday I'll buy another AKG 422 or 424!)

Im going to record conserts (rock and experimental), schoolchildren etc. and are looking for a stereo pair or stereo mic for this purpose. In the concert situation I will put up the stereo pair in distans and take the aux out from the mixer and then mix it at home. with the schoolchildren I will use XY.

My understanding is that in mid-side stereo recording, if a stereo track gets played in mono, the side elements cancel each other out, leaving just the mid component (this arrangement aids mono-compatablity).
