Source for 1" leader tape (timing marks, 3M type pr
Hi all.
I'm trying to source a roll or three of 1" leader.
I prefer the 3M stuff - it's self-stickiness is greate for tops and tails of the reel where it needs to "grip" the hub... my normal supplier can't get it (Quantegy isn't sourcing it from anyone I believe...)
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Recreating the sound of an old tape recording
Hi all. I'm doing some sound design for a website and am looking for thoughts as to how to impart the sound of an old analog tape recording to the material. The premise is that this is a recording someone made documenting the ghostly cries of a mother who haunts a mountain, searching for her lost little girl. Thanks in advance for your ideas.
DAT Tapes
I presently use Maxell professional tapes R-124DA and I was hoping to try various Apogee tapes but they don't appear to be available in the UK now :) .
Can you actually hear or tell any difference between brands?

Mastering House for 1/2inch Tape?
Hello all,
Does anyone know of a studio that can mix and master tracks I have recorded on 1/2 inch tape. I do not want to have to take my machine to the studio with me. I would like to find a place equipped with an 8 track 1/2 inch tape machine so I can just carry the reels with me. I'm in Atlanta, but would consider shipping the tape if I need to.

Tape Machine Distorting on Input!Help
Good Morning,
I need some help calibrating my APR-5002. I've run through the calibration process several times and when I try to record directly from a CD
source(+4dbu) the play back is distorted. The recorded material is about 12 dbs below full scale and peaks at -6dbs.
Here are the tape machine parameters:

True Tape
Okay... I'm having a hard time finding this out now. Does Cubase VST 24 have "true tape" or is that only on Cubase VST 32?

20 year old 2" tape
I was just given a reel of Ampex 456 at +3/250 15 ips recorded in 1982 to replace a vocal track and mix. My MCI is setup for +6/250 30ips.
(1) How do/will I know if the tape will require baking.
(2) How will I need to set up the MCI. If I switch to IEC will this be sufficent for record (1 or 2 tracks) and playback?

The future of analog tape
This topic is inspired by the various rumors (are they true? Anybody know?) that Quantegy tape is no more.
So...who here uses analog tape? Why, or why not? Do you use it for tracking...or mixing...or both? Which make and formula do you prefer?
Let's hear it for the sound and smell of analog tape...Bring it on!

Do Super VHS work for ADAT Tape?
So I am up in Syracuse NY doing a record and I am yet again stuck doing a record on ADATs heres the thing. There is no place to get ADATs in Syracuse so I bought some Super VHS tapes @ Best Buy. The guy has XT 20s and the Super VHSs seemed to format fine, what I am wondering is do these tapes work well as ADAT Tapes.

Calibrating a tape deck?
Hey all! I finally decided to put the Rec/Repro cards back in the little Fostex 1/4" 8-track. Before anyone yells at me, it was free, m'kay!
Anyway, I need to calibrate the deck, but I'm not quite sure which trim pot I should start with. I've got my 1kHz tone on tape from another deck that was pretty close to calibrated (I realize this is a poor way to do it, but bear with me).
