I'm confronted with a problem that I just can't seem to fix. Basically I'm trying to sync a 8 track tape machine with my DAW.

I realize there are many different parameters depending on what equipment/software you're using, but here goes:

I was wondering if anybody knows any shortcuts on how to obtain that old record sounding vocal effect (kind of portishead sounding)? I have an eq setting on my Korg d3200 recording studio(i bought this for portable recordings), but I've already recorded this onto Pro Tools LE before I decided to change the recording. I was wondering if there is any eq tactics i can do post recording.

Is it possible to use old 'ministudios' like Tascam 424s as tape echo units?

Did those things have seperate Play/record heads? Or would you just be hearing the signal going through the mixer, and not the recorded signal?

I realize you can do this with reel to reel, bit what about cheaper stuff like cassette 4-track machines?

I was considering making some mastering tests using a nagra T-audio tape recorder...
But here's the thing, i just can't have it to record while at 30ips (maybe some option not available or something), it reads but it won't record...

has anyone already heard about that?

So here's the big question, what's the difference between reamping a digital signal through an analog reel-to-reel machine to obtain analog compression and color, and recording directly onto the tape and digitalizing that signal? What's the best way to go?

Are any of the "old" reel-to-reel tape recorders, either semi-pro or pro, 4,8,16,24 track being made new? Even if it is in China!

Hi, well I wanted to try out the analog tape experiment, so I went out and bought a Tascam 32 1/4" reel-to-reel mastering analog tape machine and started experimenting. Oh my god it's so perfect! In all my 4 or 5 years of experience recording in the digital domain I've never EVER come across this type of sound, it's like having human ears as a recording system, I couldn't understand it!

Sometime soon my band will start recording a album and I'm wondering weather it's worth tracking drums at a studio on 2" tape. I would get the tape transferred to digital format so I could load it up on Pro Tools and do everything else at my studio.
