New singer trying to understand the process
Forums
Hey everyone. I am new to this forum. I have just been in a pro recording studio for the second time and my tracks have come back obviously compressed and sounding dull sound wise and fairly quiet... Do you know what I have to be saying back to the studio to get a louder, crisper sound? I know I am capable of a good, strong, crystal clear vocal so I am wondering why I sound crushed and dull.

Understanding Zobel Network
Forums
Boswell
Hi Bos.. ;)
I was wondering if perhaps you could help me to more easily understand what a "Zobel Network" is.
I've noticed this term mentioned in reading more about the ISA One mic preamp; and I've honestly tried to learn about this by reading various articles on line, and, well, I'm not getting it.

The Mathematics of Sound: Scientific Comprehension or Conceptual Understanding
Forums
In my quest to understand more about recording I bought a textbook. This methodology has worked well for me in many situations. I picked up the 3rd Edition "Handbook of Recording Engineering" by Eargle. Chapter one has in a certain sense left me in the dust. I understand the material presented in a conceptual way.

What I don't understand about the K-system
Forums
I've read a lot on the web about the K-system of monitoring, metering and mixing/mastering. The K-system basically attempts to ensure that a finished song has at least 12dB of RMS headroom, right? So that the song sounds dynamic and lively, as opposed to squished, loud and generally Mastered for !tunes.
