Rolling Stones Vinyl
ABKCO Records has just released many of the classic Rolling Stones back catalog albums on Vinyl L.P. pressings. I am proud to say that they came to me for the cutting of 10 of the L.P.s and also the double 12" vinyl remix set of "Sympathy For The Devil" that has been to the #1 position on Billboard Magazine's Dance Singles Sales chart.

Vinyl - "balancing" front and back sides?
I've read that the length of the material on both sides of a vinyl record should be about the same length so the disk won't be "unbalanced".
Is that true? What exactly does "unbalanced" mean here? I don't see it affecting the rotation around the spindle?
Thanks,
Doug

Mono "Bass" on Vinyl - Definition in Hertz?
Hey,
What is the definition of "bass" that needs to be mono for vinyl?
I'm seeing different numbers -- below 125 Hz, 150 Hz, 300 Hz, 400 Hz?
Is there any official definition?
Does it depend on what the bass is doing? Traditional "stereo image" versus actively bouncing around? Fairly compressed level versus punchy amplitude changes?

How to make recordings sound old?
I'm interested in ways of making things sound old, and wondered if there was any particular piece/pieces of gear that have a knack for this. By old, I mean anything that has a characteristic that can be related to music recorded and mastered between the 30's up through the 70s. Not that the 70's sound old but... you know.

Mastering for Vinyl
Hello All,
I posted a huge response to a topic entitled "optomizing for vinyl" a few days ago. So far there has been no response. I wonder what the level of interest there is in our forum for info on cutting to vinyl. I've been cutting for 20 years & just love to cut. It's so physical. Something where you can see the music. Although I also feel like a blacksmith sometimes.

optimizing for vinyl
Don,
I think it would cool if you would talk a little about the inherent tonal qualities of vinyl and how best to prepare material that is going specifically to vinyl. Do you recommend mastering differently for CD and Vinyl? And if so, what things can an engineer do to maximize the potential results?
