Hey everyone. I need some expertise. LOL. I have DFHS and i just cant get the same sounds ive heard from different users but usually when i ask people who infact have th eprogram, they dont feel like helping. haha. So this goes to anyone that wants to help. Basically Im using Pro Tools LE with a digi002 and i cant get a good full sound out of it. For example the kick doesnt have a very clear cut through stereo full sound. Its very centered and mono sounding and its more of a pop rather than a cut through thump. The snare i cant stereo spread enough to sound in the distance yet right there in your face. I just didnt know if its any settings that i may have wrong or what. Because ive heard people actually get this DFHS to almost sound like a real damn drum kit in a million dollar studio and right i just dont get it know matter how much eqing and compression i do. Any help would be great. Also i wanted to ask. Im not using any mastering tools cause all i have is the factory bundle which is mainly mediocre effects so could this have to do with my lack of bottom end and deepness/fullness of the DFHS. The DFH users manual/help file talks about the system in detail. However, if you have no experience in recrodings drums (and/or recording in general) it's not possible to give you a simple answer. You need to read a book on recording and also read the instructioins for DFH.
The samples are very much like a live drum recording: two mics for the snare, one for the kick, hi-hat, overheads, etc...

I use BFD and I think DFHS is similar. The sound I hear is amazingly close to what I hear when I mic a live kit. (except that I don't have to tell the drummer to keep playing while I make adjustements)
I then go through a number of steps that involve both external processors, some console tweeking, and some final software tweeking on the backend. This is a technique that i've developed over many years of working with live drummers. (A LOT of live drummers, and a lot of different types of drummers)
The samples in BFD (and I assume DFHS) are unprocessed. These are what drums sound like with very good mics on them. Usually somewhat bland eh?. Our ears are so much better than mics, that they're really going to need some adjusting. (The drums that is, not our ears)
To make a long story short, you need to find your own way. Pay attention, you're going to learn a lot along the way.
