I am starting to build a home studio and am not sure which converter to go with. I know that the Rosetta is much more expensive than the Lynx, but am i really getting that much of a jump in sound quality?
I'm going to be recording primarily guitars in a small home studio, almost only two channels at a time.
Thanks. :D

Fletcher did a shootout of Apogee vs Lynx over at Gearslutz I believe. His summary, different but neither one was better. The Lynx won out on the midrange to upper end, the Rosetta were not as clear in this zone but they had a tighter low end.
Pardon my memory but that is what I took from his message.

Well the adi-2 has better SNR and less dist then the MULTIFACE and it is 192kHz if you care about that.
I too have the multiface.
Wait 2 months for the MULTIFACE II.
I think they have a secret at RME.I asked numbers of times for info at RME forum....BUT.no answer..
CHECK IT OUT.....
The new MULTIFACE II will use AK4620A converter.
LOOK WHAT I FOUND ON AKM's SITE.
"The AK4620A supports the playback feature for direct stream digital (DSD) data, allowing switching on the DAC side between PCM and DSD data. The DAC side boasts further improvements in AKM’s advanced multi-bit architecture and achieves a virtually flat noise floor up to 80 kHz for PCM data."
COOL HUH????????????
So my guess is......The new MULTIFACE II WILL WORK WITH DSD.
WOW.
You never know...But I think if RME uses that chip, they will want to explode on the market with the first DSD computer interface unit.
Check the SYNTHAX.com for more info on the MULTIFACE II

Not a chance. What software will they use with it? How will anyone work with it?

This doesn't seem RME's market. Have you looked into the limitations of what can be done in that software running DSD?
I don't have time to go into this here and now, but you might check out this thread for writings of mine in the past on this misleading, concocted graphic. My initial reply is 1/3 the way down the page. Also note the last three posts in the thread.
Cheers!
