Alright, I currently have a Crate Blue Voodoo 60w Tube Head with brand new Ruby 12ax7 and Tungsol 6L6 Tubes. I use it for mostly rock, a little heavier rock, and enjoy some bluesy sounds from time to time. The cabinet i use is a vintage Carvin V412. The speakers are old and probaby not THAT great. I would like to either add 4 new 12" speakers to the Carvin cabinet, OR build a 2x12 cabinet and add 2 new speakers. My budget for speakers is $200. A 2x12 would be nice, as its easier to lug around, but I concern with that is getting a good low end sound from it. Oversized is a possibility. I'm thinking 5/8" Birch? I also want to properly match speakers, wattage wise. What do you guys suggest I do?

That Carvin cab is probably not as bad as you think. The Carvins in that are actually made by Eminence, and while they are not the latest and greatest, you are going to be hard-pressed to find something better in your price range.
That being said, check out the Avatar Speakers website. Their "Traditional" line is made from 5/8" plywood (your Carvin is a heavier 3/4"), but that's how a lot of manufacturers are going these days.
4-12"s are going to provide you with more bottom end than a smaller 2-12" cab (typically). But if you need more portability and aren't trying to rattle anyones' teeth out, a nice 2x12 from Avatar might be the way to go.

Well, the speakers that are in the Carvin cab, after research, appear to be the unmarked "early British speakers". However, there are only 3 in it, and 1 Electro Voice speaker....which leads me to believe that the remaining 3 speakers have probably been thrashed on.

I know some of the Mesa 2x12 cabs are surprisingly as bassy as the 4x12....any idea how I could possibly achieve this if I decide to build my own 2x12 cab? In which case I would probably just spring for a pair of Vintage 30's.

They are made by Eminence, possible "BRITISH-VOICED", depends on their age. Anyway, that Mesa cab is very well engineered and TUNED to deliver exceptional bass with a specific speaker design. You will need a special CAD program to design that. Have you tried that E-V by itself in the cab? Most of their models are killer compared to a C or E manufactured speaker, much higher rated, too...

That or Orange. Not sure yet. Definately upgrading my Blue Voodoo for a Single or Dual Rectifier though, it'll be awhile though.
