Hi Recorderman, I'm sure you're tired of getting called out, but I have a question that I could not find in your instructional threads. Using your technique with 2 cardioid condensers (Large diaphragm), which direction do you aI'm the capsules? (I could only find your info on actual mic placement)

that, tor at the toms. I sometimes aim at the rack tom(s) for one and the floor tom(s) with the other, tweaking so that the off axis snare is still somewhat center. Or, again...aim at the snare.
What sounds good is good.
I also sometimes do not use noraml OH's at all. Choosing to instead top and bottom mic all toms, snare, two on the kick (in & out) and stick a pair of Large Diaphram Condensers out in front, and triangulated (meaning the kick is equidistant and one piont of a triangle) with the kick. About 8' feet high, maybe 8' to 10' feet in front of the kit (walk back wards fron the drummer with him hitting kick and snare and stop when it sounds best). These "OH/Room" mics can be great "OH's" as well...giving you distance to the cymbals, and room for the drums. As to pattern? Omni, Fig8, Cardiod all work and depend on what sounds bets for your particular situation at the time. Of course this technique needs a somewhgat decent sounding space. But experiment.
