I've seen Just Surrender live a few times. They used Fenders the last time I saw them, the tele/strat sound with some distortion might account for the definition of it.

iamfrobs can't record a bad sounding guitar. Especially with that API 1608 for his avatar. Am I right? API 1608? That's all you need with your SM57/58 and your guitar will sound like well the way a guitar should sound. No, it's not the best mike preamp. It is THE preamp. It's only another $500 per channel. You'll be able to afford that by your next lifetime. It'll be good for other things also. Your next lifetime, not the preamp.

lol, how is my EQ technique? Cut first, then boost, and not too much, and I usually try to not have more than two humps or valleys per track. I also usually roll off guitar tracks at 150Hz at 24 or 48db/Octave.

1. Never have more than 2 EQ peaks or valleys per track.
2. Always roll off the guitar below 130.5555Hz, no matter how it sounds.
3. Always point a sm57 at the part of the speaker that makes the noise, unless it is unplugged.
8. Always plug in the speaker.
11. Always increase the ratio/attack/release/uberfuber until the compressor is getting rid of those nasty dynamics, and then turn it up a little more.
13. the bypass button is your friend: Always keep it on.
21. if it's too loud, Always EQ the hell out of it: Volume faders are for wussies. you want to decrease the volume??? what, are you a little sissy?????

Here, I re-recorded the parts just now with the mic a still angled towards the cone, but moved more towards the inner portion of the cone. My ears are shot because my amp is in the same room that I record in. @_@

I'll check it more in depth when I get home tonight, but I want to hear what you guys think.

I definitely like the way your McCheck sounded. Now just double that part the same way. Double it physically not electronically. Then you'll have all that you want. It takes "take two" to nail it down, solidly.

Does that mean the coil or the cone? The whole package kind of contributes to the sound in different ways.
