Recording bass can be a challenge for sure. Without knowing what gear you have available to you I can only give you general guidelines.

First: Get a good bassist. Sounds overly obvious but that's the single best element for a great bass sound.

Second: Get a good Bass. Meaning, fresh strings, proper intonation, new battery if active pick-ups, Fender Precision always helps too.

Third: Take at least to points of source while recording. Use a high quality DI, Tube-type if you have it. And mic-up a good sounding bass amp. Take your time getting a good tone out of the amp and then take even more time replicating that sound with a mic.

Make sure that you alighn the phase of the DI and Mic. They will almost always be out of phase. (not good)

Fourth: Keep asking advise.

With a Digi002 and at the palce your at (from you question)...jsut get a good D.I. bass recording. 1/4" cable out of the Bass into the Digi002 1/4" input. Get a good level , but leave a few db's do you don't get overs. You can compress and eq after the fact. A good clean D.I. sound will give a good bass sound. You could always re-amp it later for an amp sound and/or throw a sans-amp on a duplicate for the "amp" sound. I wouldn't worry about the phase issue now. Truth be told that has only really become something that people are doing/focusing on the last few years. There's been a couple of decades of Bass D.I. and Amp tones recorded and mixed that didn't do that. I'm not saying inthing in the previous post is wrong...it's all good advice. But you can't go wrong with less is more...as a start.

The method Ive found that works for me,is I run the bass directly into the board,Ill send the signal (via TRS )into my tube preamp,then patch it to my compressor,then back to signal return through the TRS,then of course,outputting from board to my 880. 8-) hope this helps.
