Okay, I have a question for all of you. Is there anything that compares (in quality) to the Alesis QS8.2. .but is cheaper?

My friend who is in the music industry wants an Alesis QS8.2. I was going to buy him one for Christmas. He had a fit and said that he would not allow me to spend so much money on a gift.

I found a good deal on one, on E-bay, but I didn't make the bidding deadline. I thought I'd ask the professionals about other similar instruments that would do a reasonably good job, but that might not cost quite as much.
