I'm using PT mix ++ and a vintage farm with a 24/888 on a 9600 450 G4 upgrade. I'm using OS 9.04 and have been wondering for sometime if I should upgrade my OS. What OS are you using? I have been told I can't go to OS X with a 9600 (tell me I can with a newertech G4 upgrade) but would like to possibly take it to 9.6 . Anyone else using my conf with OS 9.6? How is your OS working? What's the most stable OS right now?

OS9.6? Ummm ... there isn't one. The current level of OS9 is 9.2
OS9.6? Ummm ... there isn't one. The current level of OS9 is 9.2.2, and it's rumored that it will be the final version. Apple ceremoniously put OS9 to rest several weeks ago. Microsoft has also ended their continued research for the "classic" Mac environment.
You should have no problems upgrading to 9.2.2. However, it will be quite time-consuming. From 9.0.4, you will have to upgrade to 9.1, then to 9.2.1, then to 9.2.2. You must follow this upgrade path, as each one has the previous prerequisite. I have a compressed copy of each version stored on a dedicated partition of my harddrive, so that I can do an occasional fresh installation, and never have to re-download these rather sizeable files again on my 56k modem.
If you decide that you want to upgrade to OSX, wait til this fall when OS10.2 ("Jaguar") is released on CD. Rumor is that if you have a previous version of OSX, there will be an upgrade charge to 10.2. I was recently going to get OSX, but I'm waiting for this reason.
Chris, if you haven't upgraded since 9.0.4, you'll find that there are a lot of other important updates on the Apple site that you need, too. However, these updates will be rather difficult to find, as they are now archived. If you want help with that, just ask and I will find them for you.

I have a newertech G 4 that I would upgrade to OS 10.2 if I new it would work. Newertech went broke after years of making ecellent upgrades for mac, bummer. I bought the G4 450 and I wish I could find out if anyone knows if OS 10 would work with my newertech. Most likely shouldn't take the chance but, hmmm.

In your case, the best way to get your hands on OSX.2 would be to have it come with a new G4 system. It sounds like you're way past-due. If you hang-on til later this year, rumor has it that the next crop of Apples will include DDR support and a hefty increase in CPU power, as well as OSX.2. I also heard a rumor that it will be available in optional leopard skin, but again, that's only a rumor. :D

As for peecees, I think it would be fitting to spray insulating foam all over them, to make em all lumpy, then paint em brown. Glue-on a urinal cake as a case badge. Install a TP holder on the side of the case, so you can wipe when you're done. OH ... and it would be wise to keep a tube of KY jelly on the puter desk for when you have to deal with the online retailers who you must buy your components from. Ohhh ... and as for an office chair ... let's just say that you'll need a wax O-ring to install it!

I´ve tried the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.1 and it didn´t work that good... then I tried doing a fresh install from 9.1 and everything was great! almost a year till today!
