I'm not saying additional hardware wouldn't add to the sweetness but wow, this is a simple 1 space rack pre/converter combo.

It's a great track - and of course, having bad-ass players like these cats doesn't hurt any, either - LOL - but the recording quality is certainly there.

The top-end you mentioned as being a bit too edgy didn't bother me as much, what I noticed was more of a "spatial" thing, in that the imaging sounded pretty up front and "shallow" to me. I'd hoped to have it "deepen up" a bit when everything kicked in - but that's not really a converter thing, nor do I believe that it's a reflection on the gear being used... that's more of an engineering thing, via miking and mixing. And, to be clear, it's also a personal preference thing, too. It just happens to be what I was hoping for, and in no way does it negate the obvious overall quality of the recording.

To me, it sounds like the perfect track/style/scenario for a Bricasti room sim. ;)

The 251 top end and the cymbals are doing something odd to me but its pretty minor. It sounds like it was mastered like that. The flatish spacial sound you mention, I think this was meant to be a true to the capture. No doubt a few extra mixing tricks and a Bricasti would really sweeten this up.

It just goes to show that Aadvark became Antelope and are indeed changing the world of music. Still love the Orion. Wish I had known they would make a preamp set to go with it. All spending is off, making do from now on. Unless something dies.. ;). It's a great recording regardless of it's state of 'finish'.

The Orion 32 and the MP 32 are all "I think" most people need. Sure extra gear is nice, but this thread is a clear example that it is possible to do it all on one computer and two boxes.
Great musicians, great mics and a place to capture it gets it done. If you don't have the greatest space, track dryer and get a Bricasti.
Its a pretty cheap way to produce world class music now.
