This is another crapper idea, one of those ideas that's either a spark of genius, or total trash. Bear with me...
You should get the bass and kick to fight with eachother, maybe by boosting the same frequencies, just get them to fight as much as possible. Then you invert the phase on the bass and according to my thought process they shouldn't seat nicely? I haven't had a chance to try this out yet, just brainstorming.

I would say no, crappy idea (so to speak). The more frequency overlap there is before you invert one, the more cancellation you'll get after inverting. So they might not fight with each other so much, but instead of two gloriously violent bull elephants going at it in the low frequencies, you've got too chihuahuas yipping at each other. I apologize for that ridiculous metaphor. But hell, what do I know, try it and see. Can't we all just get along?
