omg, the day has come, when I get monitors :D
Well I did some searching on the internet and I came up with these as options. What do you think? I really have a tough time getting the low parts of a mix right because my speakers are the muddiest things I have ever heard. I would also like to get some more high treble clarity out of these as well. I have no want, need, nor use for a subwoofer. I am definitely going active, I don't want to add an amp into the mix, just another thing to worry about replacing down the line if you ask me. Budget is US $300-350 / pair

oh read the fucking manuals. Hey, you know I did read the FireBox's manual and it didn't specify. All it says under main output is 'the level of this output is controlled by the main volume knob on the front of the unit". It's not very helpful or else I wouldn't be asking.

Well it looks like a 1/4" female plug. Where my confusion was is the fact that a few completely different types of cables can interface with this kind of input. There's TS or TRS as far as the jack is concerned, and instrument or speaker which have totally different guages of wire and amounts of shielding. But regardless I never mentioned XLR as a viable option. I gave two choices, TS speaker cable and TRS connector cable. There's a lot more going on than what the plug looks like or "gozintas gozoutas." That kind of logic will leave you with a lot of dead equipment because of mismatched cable or hum/noise from lack of shielding.
If I followed the principle of 'gozintas gozoutas' with my guitar amp I would be able to put an instrument level cable going from the head to the cab and either my head would fry or the speakers would blow if I used it a lot because the cable can't stand the level of output the amp is giving it. I would either blow the transformer or the entire power amp section. I don't want anything like this happening to my FireBox or my monitors.

Proco or Sweetwater. Or go coocoo for Cucco cables. Or any standard decent quality cable. Monster cable just tends to be more hype than substance IMO. Better yet, make your own with good quality connectors. It's about time you dived into the next Stage of Sound GF!

Eh, not a fan of LiveWires. I started out playing guitar with those and they usually broke within a month of playing. When I upgraded to Monster cables for guitar I could hear a pretty obvious improvement. Not very good build quality.

I'm still trying to decide. I don't think Monster cables are the best by any stretch, but that replacement deal is killer. I am up for a gimmick as much as the next guy. I've got Monster at basically every other aspect of guitar and recording and my ADHD is acting up again @_@
How much does cucco charge for this kind of thing?

Sit quietly in your studio and do a little silent meditation to calm your thoughts...
Mogami are also a good choice but again your talking pricey...

Ooh, see all this high end stuff gets me excited. I'm willing to pay a little more for quality. Sure cable is cable, but having to buy three different cheap cables because they break all the time is costly in the long run. Plus these look better :) and isn't half the magic about impressing the clients?

Cables are like anything electronic in nature.
From entry(crap) to intermediate, there's a big value in step up.
From that point on, you pay more and more for each increase in quality.
Worth it? If you feel like spending $1k+ on cables.
Monster Cables are great cables.
But any quality cable that offers a lifetime guarantee is a better buy.
Yes, the hassle of (free, no questions asked) replacement weighs in. But I have only had three or four cables crap out on me in a good two years worth of usage.
Just thinking about your budget. I get Planet Waves from a local distributor. I also own many other cables. All perform well. PW are significantly cheaper than Monster, and have lifetime replacement.
If you're really concerned about it, spend the $$ on a couple of Monsters to go to your monitors. I did. Just don't go buying a bunch of $50-100 cables.
Unless you're building a $1M studio?
Soap I'd say I pretty much agree with everything you just said.
Soap I'd say I pretty much agree with everything you just said. That's how I see things as well. I have no desire to spend some ridiculous sum of money on something as small as cables. But I'm not going to lose quality in my recordings because of bad or poorly designed cable either... Basically a mantra of mine is buy the best so you know that any problem is caused by you and not by your gear. Then you can learn how to fix it rather than buy your problems away. I see it as saving money down the road. . . . . Plus I am incredibly stubborn :D
So I went ahead and purchased two KRK Rokit 5's and two Monster TRS connection cables. Unfortunately the monitors have to be ordered from the factory directly and won't be available until Aug 11th : Oh well.

It doesn't matter what kind of inputs it has. Unbalanced is just fine. In fact, unbalanced can be a cleaner signal path if proper grounding is observed. You just don't want long cable runs of greater than 15 to 20 ft.. The RP 5's sound terrific. You don't even need a sub thingy. Yes, fatigue is low. You can monitor for hours on those, all day, all night. Lots of other monitors give me headaches Just my personal choices are those & JBL's. Go for it. You love them.
Great little reference monitors they are
