You need a digital interface. How many inputs do you need at any given time?

Without an interface you can only record one input at a time (through the mic input) and using your mac's soundcard can cause latency issues. Depending on what kind of mics you're using, you may need a pre amp to power any condensers if your mixer doesn't have phantom power. Getting an interface seems like your next priority, and then I'd suggest investing in some better software. Garageband works, but is limited and clips very easily (at least when I use it). If you like Garageband, check out Logic (as Garageband uses the same engine I believe).

On top of what's been said, unless that mixer is boutique, ditch it. You don't need a mixer. If it's old and decrepit, all it will likely do is add noise.

Second the Logic Movement. Move before you get too comfortable with the bubble world of GB. This is coming from a reformed GB user, you will need to relearn everything when you get real software if you get too comfortable with GB.
