I'm new to recording and don't have a clue what recording software would be good to get. All that's really important to me is the recording and editing part, not virtual tracks (that seems to be advertised a lot). Just to give you some specs, I'm looking for software for Mac, and a price range of a couple hundred (preferably not over 300). If I left anything out just tell me, thanks a lot!

In terms of Mac software, current iMacs come with iLife pre-installed so you should have GarageBand for free. Logic Express 8 is a good Mac recording package and sells for around you price range. Audacity is also free and is available for Macs (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).

I feel I'm beating a dead horse here but will M-audio I/O's work in conjunction with mbox. I got the curiosity after browsing SW PTLE systems.
