I record either classical music(from soloists to Chamber Quartets, to full on symphony/choir performances). Or acoustic music ( bluegrass groups, Gospel Quartets, jazz bands,)This is all done on location. I use schoeps CMC6/Mk4/mk2S, Gefell M930s, an AKG C426b, and Neumann u87s. I have two channels of DAV BG1, and two channels of Mytek Stereo 192 converters..I want to keep adding to eventually have 8 channels or so..SOOO. mY next question is, which preamp should I add next?I want some variation, different flavors, but I need them all to be fast and transparent, given the nature of the material that I record.

I was suggested these:
Millennia HV-3C
Lavry 4496-18
CRane Song FLAMINGO
GML 8302

Can someone offer up advice/real world experience or other suggestions ?

Thank you much.

I'd be willing to ship to Germany for the actual fee.

PS -

I'm ordering a DAV BG2 this weekend. I'm rather excited, but I must say, it's one of the first pieces of gear I've ever ordered sight-unseen.

I trust Hudson pretty much implicitly though and he recommends them thoroughly so, I'm taking that plunge.

Let us know which one you choose and good luck!

Well...I ordered the Millennia. It was very reccomended, and down the road I can add the ADC option to it for 1500 bucks.

I love my BG1 immensely.

I want to have different flavors and not several of the same pres..so im thinking the next 2 channel I get will be a Hardy or Neve.

Now I just need a firm to work for when I leave the army.

Well, if you make it to the DC area when you leave, there's always work here in my studio!

You really couldn't go wrong with any but here are some thoughts...

The cleanest will be the 8302 (I have the 8304) with the Millinnia very close behind. If you have the Lavry Blue A/D's (I do and love them) then the mic pre would be a good choice if you have an extra chasis slot open. I also have the Flamingo and love it. This would give you the opportunity to color the sound from a little to a LOT. Depending on how you use it, it can be pretty transparent.

Bottom line... you don't loose with any of these!!
