What do you guys think of the Digi 02 ... i want to start a studio and I'm willing to pay about 2000 for starters. Do you guys think buying the digi is a good investment?

*yawn* another digi basher. Play with one and see how you like it. Not quite sure what you mean by the "there are no individual outs" gripe. You can send anything anywhere in PT. You're limited by the hardware's outputs, yes, but you get 18 of 'em. That's 16 more than I normally use at mixdown.
See if you can maybe talk to studio rats in your area and see what they're using and why. Beware of BS. All this stuff does the same thing, so you want to get the software/hardware package that you can understand and work comfortably with.

"Only use Pro Tools if you're doing HIP HOP?" Seems like the opposite would be true. I find Pro Tools' audio editing functions are really great, while the MIDI capabilities are not. The Digi 002rack is a nice box. All in all a nice purchase (remember you can use other software with the Digi hardware). If you buy a non-digi product, you will NEVER be able to use Pro TOols with it.

Same here: I work with a 001 and I'm about to upgrade to a 002R; so far in 4 years of use it's been flexible enough to allow me work from records to A/V post, and the stability of the system...well that's out of discussion, try that with soundcard A + software B and driver C...its 18 anaolg+digital outputs are more than enough for an average mix project, if you need more maybe you should consider getting an HD rig or something else, but you will be reconsidering you budget too.
I think that for an entry level Pro Tools rig the 002R backed by a screaming CPU is a good purchase you only have to be aware of the LE software limitations, but definitely a device capable of pro level work in the right hands.

no no no, don't do it, please listen to me don't do it, it will be a big mistake, get a nice interface and cubase, that would be the best possible choice, if you go for digidesign then you will be stuck with their gear and there are no individual outs for individual channels so i'd say no to digidesign, the only exception is if you do hip hop beats, ONLY then digidesign is acceptable, best of luck 8-)
