So what is the insider info on the RNP? Will it live up to the RNC as far as incredible value at a great price? Will it be 1 channel? 2? Will they make a bigger version (8 channel)?

What is the word... I want all the info.

Right now all we know is that it is supposed to street @ $350 and is half rack. It is also supposed to be fully balanced, but probably w/ 1/4" unbalanced also. It's going to live up to the RNC, that's why the wait. There is an extensive testing and perfecting time period that the unit must go through to live up to the FMR name. Be patient, I'm guessing we will see it by late January and it will be worth the wait.

Emulate rca tube models? Wow i would have thought it was going to be transparent like the rnc. Its also going to be half rack which is weird since i thought the plan was for a channel strip that would fit in one rack space.. RNMP,RNC,RNEQ. Oh well, ive never heard an rca tube pre, but ill definetly get a rnmp when they come out.
Oh yeah anyone actually heard a rnmp yet?

Actually, I'd really would like to check this one out IF it isn't transparent. I'm always looking to color the sound especially in these Pro Tools times... If it's gonna replicate the RCA's, I'd say yeah!

YMMV, of course, I'm only concerned in trying to make these half-assed "singers" try to sound a bit decent! Man, what's the world coming to now? Singers that "look" but can't sing, autotune, pro tools.... fast food music.... Where did the real music go to? Well, gotta make a living though so who cares?

Back to the RNMP, can't wait to get one! And who knows, they might have different models, the RCA-emulator, API-emulator, Nevelator....

Now, now. Be nice... just put effects on em'. Haha, kidding. But whether the RNMP is going to emulate anything or be transparent I will be equally excited. I have no idea how the RCA's sound. Can anyone describe the 'colour' they would add? I know that isn't incredibly easy but... :w:

The last time I used an RCA pre was about 4 years ago. Compared to something very clean like a Grace or Earthworks they will thicken the sound and add a little grunge up top. Overall very musical and I wouldn't consider them dark.

Re; RCA emulation:

FWIW, I have an old RCA BN-5A mic pre (with about 100 dB of gain!) and can say it is a very nice sounding pre - noisier than solid state, but has a large top boost (+6 dB @ 10 KHz) and 3 tube stage that gives a nice compression when hit a bit hard. Overall, a top-drawer unit, and if RNC is gonna try to copy it, that'd be one tough order - I wish them luck, and I'll be in line for a pr. to try out.

Merry Christmas all!

That is yet to be seen...but my 'Magic 8-ball' sez: "All indictations point to Yes"

Will it be 1 channel? 2?

One channel, balanced.

Will they make a bigger version (8 channel)?

There is a 4 channel unit being discussed, as well as a 2 channel unit with a couple extra features.

So how does it feel to want? When it's finished (they were on what is hopefully the last 'board revision') and released, you'll get all the information you'll need. Until then, you're going to have to wait like the rest of us.

Just like a kid on christmas eve. I've been waiting for a decently priced, good pre for a while now. I almost bought a Joe Meek but wasn't really happy with all the reviews I was reading... and that's when I heard the same makers of my newly purchased compressor (that I would damn near go to war for) was making a pre. Happy happy, joy joy. I was just trying to find out what everyone else knew about it. I think I have succeeded.
