Hi, i have a ? I'm runnin my mic through a Mackie 1202 vlz pro preamp and by passing its eq's to go str8 to Nuendo, wut are some good overall 4 band eq's for rap vocals, or a good start for me to learn from. Also is it good to add a slight reverb and moddelay to vocals to depthen them? I heard something about stereo echo, wut does it do? thx

Ok.

Whoa there! Who told ya you got to put a 4 band eq across a rap vox? And if so, why not try and get something usable out of the makee eq before you go spending hard earned $$$'s on outboard gear andplug-ins

Also is it good to add a slight reverb and moddelay to vocals to depthen them?
Maybe. It depends. Might be the right thing for the song, might not. You have to figure out what "good" means first.

It simply means you can have different delay times added in the left and right channels. When using short delays in this manner, you can create the illusion of a very thick, wide vocal, among other things.

Hope that helps. Cheers! :)

hey, i think that the saying goes that in hip hop, there are no rules. Hip hop producers do just about everything against the norm and let's face it, sometimes it's great. You just need to experiment. Here's a trick, if you want to make your vocals sound rough or cheap (sometimes a desired effect)use the telephone preset on your Nuendo eq plugins. Makes the signal seem canned into a limited freq. range (1500-3000 aprox.) You don't need Nuendo to do this however if you have a mixer with ex. Just sweep out all freq. ranges above and below that area aprox. and it should give you something close. About the reverb part, adding and subtracting it effects one's perception of the space the artist is in when recording. I like to try to create the ideal space that my artist is in for the listener. Again, if you want to try something dif. for hip hop try a gated reverb (should be in your Nuendoplug-ins) This is a cool sounding, non linear reverb. Just remember to calculate your delay times correctly so it sync.s with the music.
(60pm X 100 = 1/4 note in ms.)
good luck
