If anything on any of them breaks you're likely in trouble. The thing that breaks most often is the mic clamp and it often is specific to the mics itself(So get a spare - for stage use anyway...).

Other than that, depends on how important things are - thus how well-built things are - thus,(Often) how expensive things are, irrespective of actual design...

Atlas stands can be strong, durable, work well and have less parts that can "fall out", but the older ones, at least, are heavy and kind of clunky. Not a problem, but..?

I have a K&M, that I like. Nice little boom, works well, etc., but no stage use for this one, so I don't know how long it would last?

I've used "fold-up" stands and solid-base stands for years. Both styles last about as long as they should, I suppose, depending on how much I paid for them, I guess? Also may depend on whether they are boom stands(More parts.), than a base/pole/clamp stand.

No matter what kind, doesn't cost a whole lot more to get a bit better stand. Likely no need for a really expensive stand for most of us......

Eh, I know this is the low end but i'll just have to say that On stage stands are cheap and definitely not half bad. At 20 bucks a pop for a boom mic stand, if one breaks at a show, no biggie. And they're definitely good for bass drums, toms, guitar cabs, etc etc, but for drum overheads get good stands.

I usually keep 10-12 of the On-stage tripod stands around with a couple of bags for mobile recording use. They are really inexpensive, and pretty dang good. Combine them with 1 or 2 really good stands and you are good to go. I've been gigging/recording with mine for several years and I haven't had one break yet.

K&M...... best value quality stands anywhere!

i go with tripod stands because they are easyer to place, have a wider bace then round waited stands and store better. the cost of the stand is up to you just make sure you have at least (this is for studio only and at verry least) 2 non boom round wait type and 4 tri pod boom stands(or 6 tri pod boom) and 2 mini boom. this seems to be the bair minimum to have. though if you find your self always doing full live bands and 7 piece big band recording you need have then changed.

also ive never replaced a stand within a couple of years that cost over $30.
