I think the best thing you can do to make drums sound fuller is to work on your mic placement and watch for phase.

Do a search on "overhead phase" and look for posts by recorderman. This will help you greatly in getting a better drum sound as it fixes out of phase drums... when you mic a kit up and things are out of phase you lose a ton of signal and they tend to sound lifeless, with no body.

This is of course assuming that you used a minimum of 2 overhead mics in total. If you are close micing everything with a couple of overheads thrown in as well, you should be able to get some passable sounds with your pres on the mixer. I would skip using the effects while recording however... you can put some on later if you want.

If you want, post more on how many and what kind of mics you are using and we may be able to help you out further.
