Hi guys!
I've just purchased a Tascam US-122 MKII audio interface, two dead cats and a matched pair of RODE NT5s for recording via my laptop, hopefully outdoors. The reason for this is to have good audio for the videos i'll be filming on my canon 550d of various artists, for posting on YouTube, but maybe also, just for readers of my site, also downloads of the tracks.
Can you see the RODE NT5s as being suitable for the job? This could range from 5 piece acoustic assortments to solo singer/songwriters. I have tried with it in my bedroom and have constant issues with volume when standing a decent distance from the mics, or is this just because i'm being too quiet, or maybe even a software issue?
Any help/opinions would be great!
Thanks,
Tom

The NT5s are great mics and should more than handle the job. The issue I would think might be the need for a better preamp than the Tascam provides for enough gain.
The best place to make up the gain is in the earliest stage of recording. With digital recording and a low noise floor a lot can be made up, but with an outdoor/live set up there's lots of add'l noise you'll be dealing with.
