SIR... It's free and you don't have to own a mac...

Alécio I agree with you it is by a long shot the best plug in reverb

Convolution is handled pratically the same way regardless of the plug-in or program used. The impulses are truly what is important and Alti-verb has nice ones for sure...

That having been said.. you can get the same result using a free plug-in without having to buy a mac if you do not own one already...

Get SIR and start collecting the highest possible impulse responses you can...

I've tried SIR... it's quite good (but the latency kills me)... Does anyone have TC System 6000 Impulses (or even better Lexicon 480L or 960L)... I've tried the follwing with SIR :

Lexicon 224
Lexicon PCM 70
Lexicon PCM 91
TC M3000

Isn't Altiverb only MAC/PROTOOLS based plug-in ? My current system is VST/DX based, so... TDM is off for now...

I guess I visted a site they had the Lexicon 300 and some from the 480 and PCM91 also.

I think SIR is becoming very popular (maybe because it's free) but there are very few complaints or problems with it reported across various forums. It's all been good news.

I think there is a way to convert impulses created for altiverb (in the altiverb format) for use with SIR. I'm not sure how to do it though. Anybody?

Are you sure that all IR-based programs sound identical?

I know that the impulses are recorded as a sample... what's the actual mechanics that the plugins use to simulate a response curve for the audio stream based on the sample? If it's an algorithm of some kind, would different plugins sound different because of different algorithms used?

That being said, SIR rocks for a free plugin. And you can make your own IRs as well! (Screw flat response and speakers - I'm not working on multimillion dollar projects ;P)

There are indeed different ways that the convolution can handle the math... And they don't all do this exactly the same. The end result will, IN MOST CASES, be identical even with differing algorithms. There are exceptions.

The ones that handle the math differently will show their differences when using either reeeaaallly long impulses... or rly short impulses... On everything else they will be identical.

The ones that handle the math the same will show no differences... It's math...
