Hello,
I've just regisitered and want say that I already truly enjoy reading all of your posts. I also am looking for advice on new recording software. I've been using Vegas Vid 2.0 for awhile now and it works fine for audio but no midi. I am thinking about the new release of Cubase but the few times I tryed to use older versions left me not liking the confusing intereface and all of the time it took to learn enough to use it.
Suggestions appreciated

The new Cubase SX has a completely redesigned interface, and is an absolute joy to use. I used to use the older version (VST, up to 5.1), and although I had no problems negotiating the interface, SX is much easier to use, the UI is just superb.

Although I have *zero* experience with it, SF has just released a new version of Vegas...might be worth looking into since it will less expensive to upgrade than to buy new.

Samplitude has a reputation for being pretty easy to use, and has a new release due out that greatly expands their midi capabilites, but even their older versions have most of the basic midi functions.

Finally, a lot of people think that Sonar has an easy to learn interface (PC only), and although I have never used it, it is gaining in popularity quite rapidly. It has a reputation in some circles of not being as professional as some of the others (Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools, Nuendo, etc.), but there are people out there getting quite professional results with it, so take a look around, try out a few interfaces, and make your choice based on the way you work.
