I am setting up a new DAW system and the idea occured to me that I might split the (outboard) mic preamp outputs on the way into the DAW with the split going to the mix console for no latency monitoring while recording. My instincts tell me this is probably a bad idea as the split will degrade the signal on the way to the DAW, however I thought I would run it by the group for opinions. Anyone?

I believe you will get a 3db signal loss when splitting the sign
I believe you will get a 3db signal loss when splitting the signal. If the convenience heavily over-rides the degraded signal loss, then that is up to you to decide whether it is worth it. Have you considered RME? Good Luck.
