I'm recording in my home studio for years now, but I have a question that unfortunately no one has ever been able to answer correctly (not that it is a popquiz, but I simply don't know the answer:)
How can I connect an analog mixer of say 32 tracks to my computer (Logic Pro) so that the faders in the Logic screen move as I move the faders on the mixer? Do I have to buy like an RME A/D converter or do I simply need a digital mixer? Does this connect with fire wire or something else?
Is this connection posible with 1 single cable or do I have to connect like all 32 tracks with each device (A/D converter if necessary of computer)?
I now use a Focusrite Saffire pro 10 but it works only with a maximum of 8 tracks simultaneously. There is one mixer with 16 tracks (Mackie OSX) that uses fire wire, but it's expensive.
Please, someone help me figure this out, because I want to focus on a larger solution for my studio.

Input alone should be enough. It's just about the multitude of tracks I want.

There's no simple way to use a purely analog mixer as a "control surface" to operate the virtual sliders and other controls in a DAW. There are some analog mixers (e.g. the A+H Zed-R16) that are designed to be switched to operate in this way, but the pot position information is extracted by separate internal circuitry and sent as control bytes via the FireWire interface.
It would be possible to build a box to operate with an existing analog mixer that would have the necessary a.c. excitation, measurement devices, A-D conversion and FireWire or MIDI control circuitry, but, to my knowledge, there is no such unit commercially available.
